With lots of money, but without water

The World Water Report of the United Nations (1) reported that in the world there are billions of people without access to drinking water, 2.6 billion without adequate sanitation, problems of rapid urbanization increasing pressure on water resources, 30-40% of water "lost" through leaks and illegal taps.

Guido Schmidt (2), Head of Water to WWF, explains:

"The water crisis in rich countries shows that economic resources and infrastructure are not any insurance against scarcity, pollution, climate change or drought. It is clear that there is no substitute for protecting rivers and wetlands. " (3)

The deepening crisis water in both poor and rich countries, is an alarm call to return to protecting nature as a source of water. WWF explains what the developed world should do with their water ': implementing international agreements on water, change our attitude to water and treat water management in a transparent, participatory and based on objective scientific information.

Europe (4)

factors that shaped the grave situation in Europe are to be found several. On the one hand the melting of glaciers will cause an increase in rainfall in some countries. In addition the increased water demand associated with tourism in the Mediterranean and the increasing pollution of rivers and reducing its flow will generate a significant deficit. Finally, climate change determined by flooding some parts of Europe as Poland, Bulgaria or Hungary while the drought will affect the Mediterranean countries as Spain, southern France and Greece .
